Apollo Bay is a great place and doing nippers is a fabulous thing to do. If you can handle nippers in the bay you can handle just about any coastal beach experience. Me, I like sailing in Apollo Bay on a Saturday instead so maybe after nippers is over you could try that out at the harbour

i do some fundraising at the carnival on day and raised a lot of money for the club
