The
Apollo Bay P12 College has been providing
education to the children of the Apollo
Bay region for many years.
School helps
to shape your child right from the first
day. Everyday they are experiencing
something new. How we respond to them,
act and speak, will affect them for
the rest of their lives. Our children
don’t get a second chance at this
opportunity; they get one go!
As parents in our small school community,
we need to realise that only by working
as a team or a larger group can we achieve
further improvements, growth, and one
that shape our school into one that
offers each child a positive, inspirational
experience in some way.
Parent
Goup Intent
The intention of the ‘parents’
club is to represent the broader interests
of the school parents and friends by
offering suggestions and support to
the school council to ensure current
topical issues reach the school councils
official meeting agenda for action.
‘The parent’s position in
our community school is a dual one.
Firstly parents have a position of importance
in supporting their child’s education,
through communication with teachers,
and by encouraging their child. Secondly,
they have a role as members of the community,
who influence the direction of their
child’s school and schooling experience.
How these roles are fulfilled and the
degree to which this may be successful
can be partly determined by the positioning
of parents in relation to the school.
Next to family and friends, schools
are the most important source of wellbeing
in the lives of our children and young
people. The public school is a key social
institution in communities, a place
where not only children and young people,
but also families and communities come
together and form social bonds.’

What are the benefits
of Family-School partnerships?
Research shows that there seems to be
an ‘association’ here. The
sorts of things they are seeing and
the benefits for children include: Better
achievement at school, better school
attendance, more positive about the
classroom and school, better social
and friendship skills, better at managing
their own behaviour and learning from
the rules.
* There are also many benefits
in terms of:
- Parents and Families, benefits for
Teachers and benefits for Whole School
Communities.
Building partnerships with schools is
a process which takes time – changing
the culture. It’s also about acknowledging
and celebrating the good things and
focussing on the strengths which already
exist.

The
Parents & Friends Group AGM is upon us
and so are the vacant positions of President,

The
current committee has done an awesome job;
and some have been in the position for 3 years.
Time for a change, think about taking on this
important role, the positions are for one
year. The group is the social and fundraising
arm of the school. We have seen the results
of having this group for the school, our children
have benefited; we have had an exciting time
giving and supporting the education of all
our children.
