Parents Group School Garden Clean

The school gardens are in need of a bit of TLC so
grab your gloves, shovels, picks, utes and wheelbarrows
and head for the school grounds on Sunday morning.
If you can't bring equipment, just bring yourselves-
it's all hands on deck to get the school looking
ship shape for the new year ahead. All families
are most welcome. The clean up will be followed
by a barbecue so we can get together to catch up
with old friends and especially to make new ones.
This is a great opportunity for families who are
new to the school to come along and meet other families
in their school community and the more help we have
the better our fantastic school will be! Date: Sunday
2nd March Clean Up: 10-12.30

workers. BYO Drinks and a salad or dessert to share.

Positive news from
Bendigo Bank
The headline in last Tuesday's Age "Investors
like
Bendigo's performance" signalled an
announcement
by CEO Rob Hunt of a 34.1% increase in BBL's
half
yearly profit, this in the face of falling
prices in shares
of the Majors.
Bendigo Bank is the 50/50 partner of the
Apollo Bay
Community Bank® and while the contribution
made
to that figure by the 205 Community Banks®
was not
itemised in the report, local chairperson
Allen Hokin
suggested that it would have been significant.
Mr Hunt went on to say "While the cost
of funding has
increased, it has served to illustrate the
strength and
deposit-generating ability of our retail
branch network.
"Notwithstanding this, we have a disciplined
strategy
of only writing business that remains profitable
and
secure in the current funding environment".
Mr Hokin said that the history of Bendigo's
growth
and its commitment to the community which
was in
contrast to the major banks, brought back
some of the
older banking traditions and its filling
of a niche with a
much more personalised approach which has
been
neglected in recent times.
It is not too late to purchase your shares
and show your
support for the local Branch and in turn,
for the local
community.
Any questions about the Community Bank®
share
offer or your wish for a prospectus can
be supplied by
Board members Michael Abbott on 5237 0284
or
Allen Hokin on 5237 6347.Prospectuses will
be
available at the Market on Saturday morning. |

APOLLO BAY MUSIC FESTIVAL
2008
The past week has been delightfully frantic
at the festival, signifying that our great
event is getting closer. Plans for the street
parade are hotting up, and if you would like
to be a part of it or have some input please
contact the office on 52376761 or by emailing
info@apollobavmusicfestival.com) and leave
your details. As always the parade will be
a great creative community event with music
and more colour and movement than you can
poke a stick at! At present we are working
closely with the Colac Freeza Group and newly
formed Apollo Bay Freeza Group on their programming
for the festival. It is terrific to see such
enthusiasm from our young community members.
On the design and layout front, Andrew Nicholas,
Jeffery Richardson and Alan Hokin have been
working tirelessly on the promotional program,
website and souvenir program - so a huge thanks
to these terrific chaps.
On a creative musical level all of the artists
are getting really excited by our event, and
in particular our special concerts: - The
Gospel Sessions, and the Cat Stevens Concert.
They are busily working on their tunes rehearsing
away and discussing some great collaborations
- so our festival will be even more
unique than ever, having these special one
off events. And we are thrilled that it will
be captured by ABC who have issued the following
statement: "774 ABC Melbourne, alongwith
dig digital radio and the ABC Exhibition Touring
Trailer are proud to be associated with this
year's Apollo Bay Music Festival. "Stay
tuned to 774 ABC Melbourne for live festival
crosses throughout the weekend and be sure
to check out the ABC Exhibition Trailer. Experience
interactive TV and Radio Studios and don't
miss the ABC kids karaoke. Take home your
very own 0REE copy of your presentation on
CD rom! "If you love the music here
at Apollo Bay, listen to dig digital radio
at abc.net.au/dig to hear tracks from many
of the artists playing the festival as well
as a diverse mix of home grown and international
talent." If you would like to be in this

will be in touch very soon regarding advertising
in this year's program. Be sure not to miss
out on this wonderful opportunity. Anyone
wanting to get in quick can contact Julian
on 0402933500.
The website now has all of the artists up
on line, so check out the latest about your
festival.
Otway Ward Candidate Roy Hutchinson
In-answer to Stephen Hart's letter,
I first would like to state that I have not
had a lot of time to catch up with Stuart
Hart and I would like to. Stuart did what
he thought was right and that took a lot of
courage. I wonder with hindsight if he would
go the same way? I am a very practical type
and I have no illusions about what is happening
in Apollo Bay. We cannot stop development,
the best we can hope to do is work with the
other councillors (Colac) in the hope that
I and our other councillor (Apollo Bay) can
in someway guide this process so it is a benefit
for Apollo Bay.
Apollo Bay has the charm and."feel of
a small beachside fishing village and that
is what it is BUT it is a holiday and tourist
destination as well. Without these (which
we cannot stop) we would not have the facilities
that are here now.
Can we stop the Great Ocean Green or should
we spend our time and energy trying to see
that it is done in a way that is more appropriate.
Say less houses on the flood plain. Perhaps
put them somewhere in the pian. The C29 Panel
Report did a lot to answer some of my questions
but I would like to know about the insurance
aspects long term.
Stephen goes on about Rates. That is too big
an issue to start on here but there are a
number of question I would like the opportunity
to ask the Shire when I get there.
Council's debt and the Auditor General's high
risk assessment again more questions at the
right time. And I hope to get that opportunity.
Roy Hutchinson.
