Well Done
on Coastcare Week sea Spurge Purge
A big thankyou to everyone who turned
up to our first Spurge Purge during
Coastcare Week 2008. We pulled close
to a tonne of this toxic weed in just
two hours and launched the Spurge

already had some volunteers sign up
for their 'patch' of coast to keep
clean of Spurge, if you regularly
enjoy our coast why not consider signing
up for a "purge patch" by
calling Anna at the SOLN office.

Get on the Bus
we saved you a seat
The Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce together
with the Colac Otway Shire, the Dept. of
Transport and Otways Tourism are proud to
bring you once again the summer shuttle
bus.
The shuttle will run from December 26 to
January 26 and provides a valuable service
not only to tourists but to the local community.
The shuttle also benefits the environment
with less cars on the road and decreases
the potential amount of drink drivers and
then of course there is the parking or should
we say no parking!
"Support the shuttle and get on the
bus this summer, we saved you a seat."
Timetables can be obtained from the Visitor
Information Centre and the schedule will
be advertised in the newssheet next week.
If you would like to sponsor the bus please
contact The Chamber of Commerce secretary
Peter Logg on 5237 6567.

THE LUCKIEST DOG ON EARTH...........
Bert, who is now 131/4 and stone deaf still
lives at 12 Ramsden Avenue!! However that
is no impediment to going on a solo walkabout
- from the Star of the Sea Hall, via the
GOR, to the football ground, and then back
onto a tour of traffic duty. Finally Martin,
from the caravan park, had the presence
of mind to catch hi and tie him up and wait
until one of the many searchers managed
to track him down. So, our grateful thanks

the town looking for this elusive and well
loved little dog. Judy & Peter Hagan,

WHAT IS A LITTLE GIRL?
A LITTLE girl is a unique and fortunate occurrence
in Nature, like diamonds or four-leaf clovers.
Many creatures have young females, but only
people have little girls. On the whole, this
is as it should be. Only that odd race of
beings which builds pyramids, composes symphonies,
solves problems in algebra, and has flights
into space, can ever hope to understand, appreciate,
and put up with Little Girls. The personality
of a Little Girl is divided into four parts.
These are known as 1. Little Girl in Starched
Dress, 2. Little Girl in T-shirt and Dungarees,
3. Little Girl with just-washed Hair, and
4. Little Girl with Dirty Face. Each of these
personalities fits her as if it were the only
one. In later years, men, who feel like impostors
every time they change into new clothes, will
marvel at the ease with which the Little Girl
transforms herself from "perfect"
in tennis togs to "perfect" in evening
dress. They will never discover her secret.
A little boy playing businessman is an indifferent
imitation of this father-but a Little Girl
playing house, is the real thing. All this
is encouraging for the future of the species.
It sometimes happens that when a Little Girl
has finished her "chores," she begins
to slide down the banisters. This too, is
encouraging for the species.
But the main thing about a Little Girl, is
that she is beautiful. No Little Girl can
help being beautiful. She is beautiful because
she is new and simple, because everything
is ahead of her, because she is so ready to
be pleased, because she does not try to hide
the gentleness and wonder that are in her,
because she trusts you, because she looks
at you as if she thinks you are very nice,
and because when she does, you are. A Little
Girl is life's new try to make everything
come out better. That is why it is Springtime
somewhere, every time a Little Girl is born.

The South African's have landed
and so did division 1 (with a big thud!!)
against Colac on Saturday. Whilst Div 3 had
a big win against Alvie, even without their
inspirational leader Bikkies.
Div 1 The "Eastern reserve curse"
raised it's ugly head again. Set 240 by Colac
and resuming at 2/12, it was a big task for
the Sharks but an achievable one. An overcast,
windy day and a green pitch greeted the Sharks
as they arrived at the undulating Eastern
Reserve. A bee bitten Jake Gillham (2no) &
Damian Carney (1no) resumed their innings,
as the ball seamed around their bats. Carney
easily doubled his score, before the 3rd chance
was finally taken and he was out for 2. (3/24)
Jake and Ben Knight battled on till the rain
intervened. When play resumed Ben was caught
behind just as the rain started again. Dougie
and Jake continued through the rain, until
Dougie was out and play was halted again.
Rain on a turf pitch isn't ideal and the Colac
bowlers (who were bowling very well) (just
ask Knighta) took control of the situation.
Matt Hanks joined Jake, but was given out
LBW for 7 (can't blame fitness for this one
Hanksy) and the Sharks were 6/68. The introduction
of spin claimed 2 quick wickets (8/69). One
of them was Jake, whose 16 was the backbone
of the innings. Casey Lang was bowled 4 balls
later and the Sharks were in deep trouble
at 9/70. Bongers and Jake Perkins put up some
good resistance till Bongers (8no) ran Jake
out for 4. The Sharks all out for the measly
total of 82. No doubt they missed the talents
of Mumbles Thomas and SOD Gill. With just
under an hour to play, Colac put the Sharks
back in for another bat. Bongers kept the
pads on and opened up the 2nd innings with
spud Lawler. Spud was looking good until he
was caught for 5. Casey made a quick 4 and
Knighta was gunned down for a golden duck.
Absolutely plumb, great game Knighta. With
the Sharks at 3/21 Dougie (14no) and Bongers
(21 no) batted out the remaining overs with
Dougie ending the game by smashing a huge
six and losing the ball. So this weekend it's
Saturday & Sunday versus City United at
home, in what will be the last game before
Christmas.

Slippery when Wet.
Every year as the weather gets warmer, more people
stumble through the door after slipping on the rocks
or on the beach. Locals have a pretty good idea
of the danger areas, but it's important to take
extra care when on the rocks around Marengo and
Skenes Creek. Avoid any surfaces that look shiny
or slimy. Warn visitors of so that their trip isn't
ruined by a slip! |

A reminder to the community and visitors of Apollo

of Human Services protocol it is not appropriate
under any circumstance for Otway Health or any

THANK YOU
We wish to thank the very observant and vigilant

DRAFT VICTORIAN ROCKLOBSTER FISHERY MANAGEMENT PLAN
RELEASED FOR PUBLIC COMMENT
Holders of Rock Lobster Fishery Access Licences
and other interested parties have until March 3
2009 to provide written comment on the Draft Victorian
Rocklobster Fishery Management Plan. The rocklobster
fishery is Victoria's second most valuable commercial
fishery, harvesting nearly 400 tonnes in 2006/07
worth $15.6 million, most of which is exported.
Executive Director Fisheries Victoria, Dr Peter
Appleford said the Draft Victorian Rocklobster Fishery
Management Plan is the culmination of work that
began in July 2007 to specify management arrangements
for at least the next five years. "This includes
a defined resource rebuilding strategy and a new
decision framework to provide clear guidance for
the Total Allowable Commercial Catch-setting process,"
Dr Appleford said. "The Draft Plan proposes
the establishment of economic performance indicators
for the fishery which can be used to monitor the
impacts and efficiency of the industry.
"It also describes strategies to provide advice
to habitat resource managers with the aim of achieving
better outcomes for key fisheries resources. This
includes continued monitoring for changes in ecological
risks to rocklobster stocks and habitats. "To
better understand the impacts to the fishery of
recreational fishers, the Draft Plan describes a
process for implementing an effective method of
estimating recreational rocklobster catch."
A Rocklobster Fishery Management Advisory Forum
will be established to assist in improving consultative
arrangements.
The Draft Victorian Rocklobster Fishery Management
Plan was developed in accordance with the Fisheries
Act 1995, and with the assistance of a steering
committee comprised of representatives from the
Fisheries Co-Management Council, Seafood Industry
Victoria, the recreational fishers peak body (VRFish),
Victorian National Parks Association, the FCC Rock
Lobster and Giant Crab Fisheries Committee and the
Department of Primary Industries. The Draft Plan
is available via www.dpi.vic.gov.au/fishing or by
telephoning the Department of Primary Industries
Customer Service Centre on 136 186.
Written submissions should be sent to Mr Bill Lussier,
A/Manager Fisheries Resource Planning, Fisheries
Victoria, GPO 4440, Melbourne VIC 3001 or by email
to bill.lussier@dpi.vic.gov.au by 3 March 2009.
