32nd Art Show 2009. This years' show was
very successful, both patronage and Art
Sales were up on the previous 3 years. 56
Paintings were sold, plusseveral items of
Turned Timber, by Brian Williams, Glassware
by Lorna Pitkethly andphotographs by our
guest photographer, local lady, Lyn Butt.
New opening hours and better signage definitely
worked for us. As usual the Society acknowledges
the invaluable input by Jane Gross.and her
group from the AB Arts Council, friends
& family members, even neighbours who
are roped in especially on the set up and
dismantling days. The Kinda dads who assisted
with the heavy work setting up the Hall
and of course our own members who work daily
at the hall during the show - we even manage
to staff the museum every day at the same
time. We also thank the local traders who
sponsor us thru their advertisements in
our Catalogue, their support for the show
is very much appreciated. Carol Wilmink
once again compiled our catalogue and our
local Newsheet printed it for us. The Art
Show has become part of the local scene
during the first 2 weeks of January and
the success of this years' show has ensured
it will continue on. Many hours of work
goes into organising the Show and the Society
is always looking for new members to share
the work load. If you are interested in
becoming a member of the Society, you would
be welcomed. Come out to our Museum one
afternoon and wander around, the visit may
just get you interested in the history of
our area and the families who pioneered
this little piece Qf Paradise.
Thank you to all whO assisted in this in
his most successful show. Ruth Hedrick,

Welcome back Waterwatchers
The, 2009 Waterwatch calendar will
be out soon and this year your water
quality monitoring will be even easier
and more accurate as we have updated
both the E.C meter and included a
whiz bang pH meter. Instructions for
this new equipment will be in the
kit and we are looking at running
a training day in the next couple
of weeks. Your water quality data
has been recognised by DSE as being
of significance to state wide water
management and this is reflected in
the choice of 11 SOLN community water
monitors to undertake monthly testing
for the Index of Stream Conditions
Assessments. Well Done !!!

ORCA
(OTWAY RANGES CLIMATE ACTION)
Australian power stations 'worst greenhouse
culprits'
A US-commissioned study of the world's power
stations ranks Australia as the world's
worst greenhouse gas emitter on a per capita
basis.
The Centre for Global Development has surveyed
the emissions of 50,000 power stations around
the world.
It finds that Australia's power sector is
the world's worst in per capita carbon dioxide
emissions.
Action Householders can take
The bulk of our household emissions come
from electricity use (from coal fired power
stations). By signing up for 'GreenPower'
from your electricity provider, you can
eliminate these emissions.
'GreenPower' is a government-accredited
program which provides consumers with a
guarantee that • they are supporting
the development of new renewable energy
to help reduce emissions and Australia's
reliance on dirty energy sources.
New figures show huge increase in renewable
energy uptake
ORCA welcomes new figures that show a massive
surge in the number of Australian households
and businesses using renewable energy.
Around Australia, more than 710,000 households
used GreenPower in 2007, an increase of
90 per cent on 2006 figures. More than 29,417
commercial customers also used GreenPower
last year - up from 17,478 in 2006.
Energy and Money Saving Tip
s Only 5% of the energy used by mobile phone
chargers is used to charge them - the rest
is when the charger is left on.
¦/ Many modern electronic products
such as Playstation 3 consume more electricity
than a standard refrigerator - switch them
off when not in use.
s Turn off all appliances on standby - your
television for example uses 97% as much
electricity on standby as when you're watching
it.

Apollo
Bay Music Festival |
Apollo Bay 2009 welcomes back past
favourite Nicky Bomba and great special events
The 2009 Apollo Bay Music Festival is nearly upon
us, and we are delighted that Nicky Bomba will be
performing at the finale with his great mate Joe
Camilleri with their stunning reggae outfit Limestone,
Nicky will also be performing throughout the festival,
alongside some of the world's finest performers.
This year we are truly celebrating diversity of
music and culture, we are thrilled to have a true
Canadian tour de force with April Verch, David Francey
and the Undesirables, as well as the terrific Irish
outfit the Alan Kelly Quartet, we will be announcing
further international acts on 5 February.
Another highlight for 2009 will be our themed concerts,
this year we will be celebrating the songs of Tom
Waits and we have an absolute stellar line up with
King Marong & Afro Mandinko, Kate Rowe, The
Undesirables, Charles Baby, Karma County, Nick Barker
and more interpreting their favourite Tom Waits
songs for our listening pleasure.
Make sure you log on to the website to look at the
program. We hope to see you there.
ABMF 2009 Program Advertising
Anyone wishing to get an ad in this year's souvenir
program should either ring or email the office asap
for a rate card. The cut off date will be 12th Feb
and it will be "first in best dressed!"
ABMF Friends
It's that time of the year again when we are on
the look out for those dedicated few who put their
hands up, year after year, to swap their effort
(8hrs) for a ticket. We call them "friends"
because that's what they are, and without them the
festival would be all the poorer (in every sense
of the word). There is a 'Friends' form on the website
or you can ring the office to put your name down
to be part of this great adventure. For those locals
who are already registered, we will contact you
by the end of February with your roster.

THANK YOU
A belated, but sincere thankyou to the wonderful
Melody Makers, who allowed us the pleasure of experiencing
"personally in the home Christmas Carols".
Their happy faces and caring hearts lifted our spirits
enormously, and they are so talented!! Love and
God Bless, Betty & Colin Frape.
Another THANK YOU
To the Hospital's wonderful chef Steve & Kitchen
Staff, a sincere thankyou for helping me out with
Colin's meals. They are all so tasty, varied and
beautifully served. We are so grateful. Also to
the incredible Meals on Wheels Volunteers who give
their time so generously, you are greatly appreciated.
Our love & thanks and God Bless to all concerned
Betty & Colin Frappe.
THANK YOU
We, the Children and Parents of the Apollo Bay Play
Group, would like to thank Jim Chenhall for his
generous donation of hand made toys including 2
beautiful dolls houses and 5 wooden trains.
After having to constantly park in Pascoe Street
over the summer period I cannot see why we do not
have a footpath in this street. The grass area is
very uneven, it has humps and hollows everywhere,
it's a wonder no one has fallen. It is a very busy
street and that makes it even worse as you cannot
walk on the road. So please Colac Otway Shire could
we have a footpath in this street. Thankyou Jo Leorke
