Apollo Bay & District Community
Bank®
Branch survey coming soon
The campaign to open a Community Bank®
branch in Apollo Bay will take its next
step in coming weeks. During May, the community
Steering Committee will conduct a feasibility
study to determine the level of interest
in banking with a Community Bank® branch.
Steering committee spokesman Mr Lance Matthews
said more than 289 people have made indicative
pledges of support exceeding $590,270. "Our
level of pledge support has been our trigger
to move to the next stage," Mr Matthews
said. "Our committee has appointed
an independent consultant who will undertake
the study on behalf of the community.
"The study will determine the level
of banking interest local residents, businesses
and traders would be willing to bring across
to a locally owned bank branch," he
said. Thousands of survey forms will be
mailed out and face-to-face interviews with
locals will also be
conducted. Information collected from participants
will not be available to either Bendigo
Bank or steering
committee members. The consultant will collate
all of the data and report back to the Bank
and steering committee with aggregate figures.
"This is an important stage in our
campaign," Mr Matthews said. "With
the level of pledges we have received we
are confident that we have the community
spirit required to make a success of Community
Banking. "However, the feasibility
study will determine whether the people
of the Apollo Bay district will be willing
to transfer their banking business to the
branch once it is
open. "We can have all of the community
spirit in the world,
but a Community Bank® branch must also
be
commercially viable if it is to be a success.
"Anyone interested in playing a role
in the success of
our Community Bank campaign is urged to
take the
time to complete the survey when it arrives,"
Mr
Matthews said. In the meantime, committee
members will continue to collect indicative
pledges of support.

SENIORS TRIP
Our trip to Adelaide was a great success - we left
Apollo Bay at 7am on Wednesday 11th April and arrived
back home at 6pm on Wednesday 18th, leaving some
of our colleagues at Colac on the way. We visited
the Coorong Region of South Australia (cruising
and lunching on the SS Coorong), saw lots of birdlife
on the way. The mouth of the Murray River is only
about 4 metres wide and Lake Alexandrina is now
a metre below sea level. The dredge out of Goolwa
works 24/7 A highlight of our trip was a guided
tour through Victor Harbour and a very good lunch
at their old hotel. Sunday morning at the Brickworks
Market saw quite a lot of money change hands. Another
good day was spent at Hahndorf, eating and buying
German food and gifts. The Botanical Gardensin Adelaide
are really beautiful, with a lovely new building
housing tropical exhibits and typical rain forest-
definitely in the "do not miss" category.
Our stay in Adelaide was slightly marred by the
inability of our driver to get the coach close to
our motel. It entailed our walking to a pick-up
point. We probably needed to walk because the meals
were rather large, especially at our last night
in Horsham -a really good motel where meals and
accommodation can be highly recommended Plans for
next year's trip have now commenced, so if you thinkyou'd
like to join us , have a talk with one of the seniors.
We're not a bad bunch and have lots of laughter,
songs and good fun Jeanette Babb Secretary

Dear Editor
Thank you and congratulations to Apollo
Bay for the wonderful 2007 Music Festival. It was
the best yet. Special thanks to the Apollo Bay Music
Festival Committee: President, Larelle Fitt, Jane
Chisolm, Liz Carr, Jenny Rippon, Will Cox and Sam
Healey - the Dream Team. Thanks to all the sponsors,
volunteers, community groups, CFA, police and all
the local traders. Overseas music mates said it
was the best festival they have attended. A magnificent
weekend that brings us all together. Thank you.
Andy Richardson Family Howlin' Wind
Street Entertainment at the 15th ApoIIo Bav Music
Festival This year we had a record entry of performers
in the Buskers Competition. The young buskers were
out in force, and competition was hot. The streets
were awash with music and the crowds loved it. The
Fabulous Swing Plumbers won the best Street Musician,
with the piano and vocals of Mish in second place.
Becky's hula hoops won her the Street Performers
section, with the strongwoman Betty Brawn as runner
up. Vangarty, made up of Mick Fogarty and Kate Van
Zuylekom with their unusual drums and a fine combination
of ability and enthusiasm took out the Young Buskers
award. The Buskers are sponsored by the Apollo Bay
Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, to whom we are
deeply grateful, and the buskers keep coming back
because of the generosity of the patrons of the
Festival. My thanks to all who donated and helped.
You kept the streets alive! Tony Lewis, Street Entertainment
Coordinator.
