The Lone Ranger and Tonto went camping
in the desert. After they got their tent
all set up, both men fell sound asleep.
Some hours later, Tonto wakes the Lone Ranger
and says, "Kemo Sabe, look towards
sky, what you see?" The Lone Ranger
replies, "I see millions of stars."
"What that tell you?" asked Tonto,
The Lone Ranger ponders for a minute then
says, "Astronomically speaking, it
tells me there are millions of galaxies
and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically,
it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Time
wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter
past three in the morning. Theologically,
if is evident the Lord is all-powerful and
we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically,
it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow.
"What's it tell you Tonto?"
Tonto is silent for a moment, then says,
"Kemo Sabe,
you dumber than buffalo shit. Someone has
stolen
tent."

The Editor.
FURTHER COMMENTS ON ABHP MASTER PLAN
It is my opinion the master plan is a "developer's
pipe
dream" and is so poorly researched and designed
that it
should be totally rejected by the community.
The master plan is predicated on the councils need
to
provide more car parking in Apollo Bay and on the
basis that
a marina and 5 Star Hotel are required to attract
large boat
owners to pay high mooring charges to help maintain
the
port.
Some further comments are;
1. The comments made by representatives of the Fisherman,
the Recreational Boat users, the Sailing Club and
the community members at the meeting held on Sunday
last make it clear that the Council has totally
ignored the suggestions of these groups in drawing
up the master plan for the harbour area.
2. No information has been provided on the source
of funds or the contribution that will be required
by the ratepayers for the master plan works that
are estimated to cost in excess of $35 million.
3. No information is provided on the source of funds
for the continued maintenance of the area. The Council
is very quick to tell ratepayers that anything related
to the foreshore is not their responsibility.
4. The "Tracey Slatter Memorial Lap Pool"
proposed in the master plan could not in any way
meet the town's requirements for an indoor heated
pool for use in the winter.
5. The plan proposes that the number of car &
trailer parks adjacent to the boat ramp be reduced
from the present 80+ (there were at least 80 car
& trailer units parked there on Sunday 9th April)
to 20 spaces. The proposal totally ignores the 3%
per annum rise in boat ownership in Victoria. Most
if not all, of the potential growth in boating in
Apollo Bay will come from trailer transported craft.
6. What the harbour users want is a safer entrance,
more parking at the wharf and at the boat ramp with
proper toilets and changing facilities at these
places.
7. The sailing club requires a 21-year lease for
its site to allow them to develop facilities for
the club.
8. The slipway is required and should remain in
the existing location.
9. The area adjacent to the breakwater wall is unsuitable
for use a boat ramp or as a boat repair area as
it subject to constant spray when any sort of sea
is running.
10. The outer breakwater wall should not be accessible
to public vehicles. It is not a safe place to drive.
11. The proposed 60-site caravan camping park should
be rejected. The cost of development such campsites
requires that they remain open throughout the year.
The government has allowed the existing foreshore
campsites to become permanently occupied thereby
limiting the space for seasonal camping. Maybe the
council should use the land that it was given from
the Heathfield Estate for a caravan park rather
than giving it to the GOG developers?

" An Inconvienant Truth" Al Gore
Real Climate - Reporting on science - by Eric Steig
An Inconvenient Truth, The film is about Al Gore's
¦ efforts to educate the public about global
warming Much of the footage in Inconvenient Truth
is of Al Gore giving a slideshow on the science
of global warming. Sound boring? Well, yes, a little.
But it is a very good slide show, in the vein of
Carl Sagan (lots of beautiful imagery, and some
very slick graphics and digital animation). And
it is interspersed with personal reflections from
Gore that add a very nice human element. Gore in
the classroom in 1968, listening to the great geochemist
Roger Revelle describe the first few years of data
on carbon dioxide increases in the atmosphere. Gore
on the family farm, talking about his father's tobacco
business, and how he shut it down when his daughter
(Al Gore's sister) got lung cancer. Gore on the
campaign trail, and his disappointment at the Supreme
Court decision. This isn't the "wooden"
Gore of the 2000 campaign; he is clearly in his
element here, talking about something he has cared
deeply about for over 30 years. How well does the
film handle the science? Admirably, I thought. It
is remarkably up to date, with reference to some
of the very latest research. Discussion of recent
changes in Antarctica and Greenland are expertly
laid out. He also does a very good job in talking
about the relationship between sea surface temperature
and hurricane intensity. More reading on www.real
climate.com
Climate change is no longer considered a
